I use it to scan documents and some pages of my books. The scanning quality is superior without doubt, so I dedicate my review to other specs which apparently beat products from other brands.Before I bought it, I compared a bunch of handheld scanners, including those from TaoTronics, Wolverine, VuPoint, etc., and I realize products from Avision are the best. The foremost reason I choose it is that it takes the least time to scan a page. Instead of taking a fixed time of 6 sec for scanning a page regardless of the modes and quality you select (e.g. Black&White, color mode, different DPIs) as most of the products from other brands disappointingly do (you could check that data yourself), the time needed to scan a page for Avision Handheld Scanner varies and reflects the quality and the modes you choose. We found a nice small printer we like but small printers don't have scanners, hence this purchase. It was a pleasant surprise to find out the handheld scanner does a BETTER job than the Canon MP210 scanner it replaced. I enclosed two scans to show the difference. The one with brighter, more vibrant colors is the Avision scanner.The reviews here tend to be centered around how well the Avision works compared to other handheld scanners, but I would expand the comparison to any scanner and say this beats them all. Most scan in the middle. The edge scanning allows you to scan all the way up to the binding of a book and typically get all the text on the page from most books. So why did I say "not the best for thick books" in the title? Well it's not the scanners fault it's the way most books are put together. It is too hard and time consuming to scan the book once you get to the point of having fewer pages left then you have already scanned which, I figured out after having used this one, is an issue with any wand scanner. It ends up becoming a wrestling match between you and the book and makes me think I am fighting an octopus rather than scanning a book. You really need 3 arms, 2 to hold the book flat and another to scan.
